About the Publication

Trill Mag is a non profit online magazine that allocates to the Gen Z demographic. The magazine consists of articles and artwork surrounding news, entertainment, culture, and other categories of content. As a graphic design intern the task at hand is designing artwork to accompany the articles. The article entitled: 5 – Star Thriller Books You Need To Read This Summer by Rachel Ahrens is about the five most reccommended best reads under the thriller genre for the summer season. The top five books for the summer are as follows: Pet Semetary by Stephen King, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley, and When She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell.

To depict the artwork for the article the main focus was highlighting the book covers. The official image is more literal in showing a cascade of the best books to read over the summer. A mint colored gradient is the back drop to allow the black covers to stand out. Each book cover is distinct to the source material while still holding a united art style. The composition for each book cover follows the same formate of book title atop, an image in the middle, and the author’s name at the bottom. The cover is then lined with a border in the color of the title. Above is an in-detail look at each cover and spine design.  Inspiration for the book covers was taken from contemporary imagery where subtle embellishment is paired with eye-catching visuals. Below is a collage of the sketches and concept art for each book cover.
